Welcome to the paintball world, we are happy to have you! One of the most often asked questions we hear in the Pro Edge Paintball store is, “Can paintball tanks be refilled?” Usually this is a simple answer of yes but not in all cases. With anything that holds high pressure, safety is a priority. Before we say yes paintball tanks can be refilled let’s cover some of the basics first.
Paintball tanks do expire. If a paintball tank has expired (and has not been tested in the last 5 years) or has physical damage to the air tank, these air systems can not by any means by refilled. This is a huge safety risk and not worth the chance of an air tank exploding.
There are disposable CO2 paintball tanks available that can not be refilled. These air tanks are usually offered inside an entry level starter package at large sporting goods stores. The best thing to do from our experience with these types of paintball tanks is to use them and then purchase refill-able air tanks. This will save you money in the long run guaranteed as most paintball fields will refill your air tanks for free if you are playing at their facility.
So to answer your question, yes co2 paintball tanks and compressed paintball air tanks are able to be refilled. Paintball tanks can be refilled at your local paintball store or paintball fields. Some of you may now wonder if you can refill your paintball tank at home. Read our article of, “Can my compressor refill my paintball air tank“.
The more you look around you will see there are two different types of paintball air tanks. The first and most popular air tank is the CO2 paintball tanks. These air systems are the entry level air system and will work on the majority of paintball markers under $200. The second type of paintball air tank is the compressed air or HPA. These types of air systems are much easier to refill and will run you between $50 to $200. The way each paintball tank is refilled is different. Some paintball fields are now using HPA tanks for rental tanks. This is mainly because of the simple hook up and refill process the HPA tanks offer. Co2 tanks are much more difficult as they require each tank to be removed from the paintball marker and weighed to refill. If you are looking to get paintball tank refills, Google for your local paintball store or field as any of us can assist you!
