When you are in the market for paintballs you will notice there is a huge price difference between brands and color options. The most popular question we hear regarding paintball is why do some paintball cost more than others?
The simple answer to this is because of the differences in quality. However, a higher price does always mean better quality. Some paintball places will charge more for the entry level, low quality paintballs so you need to be fairly familiar with your brands and levels of paintballs from the popular brands like G I Sportz.
When you are purchasing better quality paintballs the paintball will be made of two halves, each being usually different colors. The ball will also be round with little to no flat spots, this will increase the accuracy. When a better quality paintball hits a target, it tends to be more brittle causing it to break more often. This usually causes the hit of the paintball to hurt less and leave a mark on the target. The hit on the target will also be a much larger marker due to paintball being more full on the inside with paint. The increase in paint and quality usually requires these types of paintballs to cost $10-$20 more per case of 2000 paintballs.
If you are at a paintball field that does not allow you to bring in your own paintballs then most likely you will be forced to shoot what is called “Field Paint”. ‘Field Paint” is usually an entry level quality paintball. This paintball will most likely not shoot as straight as a better quality ball would nor have a thick fill and brittle shell. You will experience more bouncing paintballs when hitting your opponents and a smaller mark if the paintball does break.
As you play more you will realize that spending a few more dollars on paintballs can be the difference between a great day at the paintball field or a frustrating one. One option you can do when trying out new paintballs is go to your local paintball store and purchase one bag of 500 paintballs from each level they sell. This will give you a great comparison of each level and each brand that you try so next time you know what you like and what shoots well for a reasonable price.
